What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is the UK Government grant (administered by Ofgem) that helps property owners in England and Wales switch from fossil-fuel or electric heating to low-carbon systems.
‍
It is installer-led: an MCS-certified installer applies on your behalf and deducts the grant from your quote so you only pay the net amount.

Current grant levels (one grant per property):

£7,500 – Air-to-water heat pumps and ground source heat pumps
‍
‍£9,000 – Temporary uplift (21 July 2026 – 31 March 2027) for eligible off-gas-grid properties replacing oil or LPG with an air-to-water or ground source heat pump.

You own the property (homeowners, landlords, second-home owners and owners of small/medium non-domestic buildings all qualify)Not social housing or shared ownership

Existing heating system

You are fully replacing a fossil-fuel system (gas, oil, LPG or coal) or an electric heating system (storage heaters, panel heaters, etc.)You cannot keep a fossil-fuel boiler alongside the new heat pump (hybrids are not eligible)You cannot claim if you are replacing an existing heat pump or other low-carbon system

FOUR

Technical & installer requirements

The new system must be capable of meeting the full space heating and hot water needs of the property. Installation must be carried out by an MCS-certified installer who is also a member of an approved consumer codeThe system must not have been commissioned more than 120 days before the voucher application is properly madeMaximum capacity rules apply (generally 45 kWth for individual systems; higher limits for shared ground loops)

Important 2026 update

EPC no longer mandatory

From 28 April 2026 a valid Energy Performance Certificate is no longer a standing eligibility requirement.

If an EPC exists, the installer will still submit the certificate number.If there is no valid EPC, alternative evidence (recent utility bill/fuel receipt + photographs of the existing heating system) is accepted.

We check all of the above for free during the consultation and survey stages.

Home Survey

An MCS-qualified surveyor visits, assesses the property, sizes the correct Greenline air source heat pump, and confirms full eligibility under BUS rules.

STEP THREE

Detailed Quote with Grant Deducted

Within 48 hours you receive a clear quote showing the full cost minus the BUS grant (so you only pay the net figure). We also handle the VAT zero-rating where applicable.

STEP FOUR

We Apply for the Grant on Your Behalf

As an MCS-certified installer we submit the voucher application to Ofgem. You simply confirm consent (and identity verification) when Ofgem emails you.

STEP FOUR

Installation

Once the voucher is issued, our MCS-certified team installs the system with minimal disruption. We commission it and complete all remaining BUS paperwork so the grant is redeemed.Throughout the process we manage every form, evidence requirement and communication with Ofgem. You do not need to apply yourself.
